This is my compact RV motorhome. It’s a LHD 2010 Ford Transit based Chausson Flash 02, although it carries the Swiss brand name Evolution. My late wife and I bought it second hand in Switzerland with a mere 5,000 km (about 3,000 miles) on the odometer in 2014. With a turbocharged 2.2L 140bhp diesel motor, the RV is no slowcoach and 30 mpg is possible with careful driving.
I have had 200w of solar panels fitted and additional batteries giving 220A/h capacity. The Eberspächer Holiday III air conditioning unit works on 12v only
I am thus more or less independent and self contained. I very rarely need a hook up to AC power. Wild camping where allowed is thus no problem.
I carry a WiFi booster aerial which enables me to log in to free WiFi from up to 1km away. The antenna connects to a mini router, which enables my laptop, streaming TV, iPhone etc to all login to the local WiFi inside the RV.
The original Ford seats can be turned to face back into the living area but were not very comfortable for long journeys. They have been replaced with specialist orthopedic seats from Dutch manufacturer ASS. Rather unfortunate name for English speakers (lol).
Compact but all the comforts of home. The TV angles forward or backwards to suit. With a full fixed double bed, there is still a surprising amount of storage space. Blown air ducted diesel powered heating makes winter travel comfortable and a 12v compressor fridge, gas cooking hob, WC/shower cubicle offer all the comforts of home.
What better than to enjoy “Fish and Chips” on a scenic harbour somewhere. Alternatively, cooking a Rissotto, Curry or Pasta dish on the gas hob is quite easy. The RV really is a “small home” on wheels. The “big garden” is the whole world!
